Up until now, only HTC and Motorola had confirmed which devices will be receiving the Android Marshmallow update. Now, Sony has joined the two manufacturers in revealing which of its devices will be receiving the update.
As you would expect, its latest flagship, the Xperia Z5, and its variants, will be the first to receive the update. Following these devices will be the Xperia Z3, Z3+ and Z3 compact, though Sony hasn’t confirmed if the Japan-exclusive Z4 will receive the update. Also receiving the update will be the Z2, though this update will probably be it’s last major one. Unfortunately for Xperia Z1 users, this device won’t be receiving the update, most likely because its been two years since its release, therefore the device is outside of the 24-month timeframe that Sony follows for updates. The full list is as follows:
- Sony Xperia Z5
- Sony Xperia Z5 Compact
- Sony Xperia Z5 Premium
- Sony Xperia Z3+ (And Xperia Z4, possibly)
- Sony Xperia Z3
- Sony Xperia Z3 Compact
- Sony Xperia Z2
- Sony Xperia M5
- Sony Xperia C5 Ultra
- Sony Xperia M4 Aqua
- Sony Xperia C4
Regarding tablets, the following devices will be receiving the update:
- Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet
- Sony Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact
- Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet
Even though we know which devices will be receiving the update, Sony hasn’t confirmed a specific time frame. If the past is anything to go by though, don’t expect to see this update until at least January 2016.
